Libby's Uncle Bob is a happily married father and grandfather. During his single years, but before he lived in his Fox’s Den, Bob was a brewer of fine beers, namely Bobweiser®and Pabst Blue Robert’s®.
In his contribution to this collection for Libby and Ziqi, Bob steps out of the brewery into the arena of distilled spirits. Bob presents here a drink often served at early evening springtime functions in the University’s pavilions in Charlottesville. As a bonus, Uncle Bob offers prudent advice following his recipe for Mint Juleps à la Bob.
Ingredients for Mint Juleps à la Bob:
© One fifth Jim Beam (or other bourbon)
© Crushed ice
© Simple syrup
© Mint leaves
Directions:
Place mint leaves in the bottom of a glass pitcher.
Slightly bruise the mint leaves.
Add crushed ice.
Pour Jim Beam over ice.
Add simple syrup to taste.
Stir well.
Pour mixture into individual sterling silver or pewter julep cups.
Caveat:
Do not operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment following julep consumption!
Note:
Libby’s Uncle Bill and Aunt Sandra, now retired with the ‘gators in Florida, recommend that the ice be crushed in a vintage Dazey Rocket Ice Crusher. These devices resided in many suburban homes in the mid-twentieth century.
