Historic Note:
The Halfway House Restaurant is located halfway between Richmond and Petersburg. This charming restaurant has a rich history predating the American Revolution. Its earliest use was as an inn where travelers could have a meal and rest. Notable diners at the Halfway House include George Washington, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, and Ulysses S. Grant. During the War Between the States, the House was conscripted to serve as headquarters for Union Major General Benjamin F. Butler during actions in nearby Bermuda Hundred.
